ST CATHERINE'S MONASTERY

If you are interested in sightseeing then this is the trip for you, take a trip to the oldest working christian monastery in the world. St Catherine’s monastery lies on the Sinai Peninsula at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai, near the town of St Catherine’s.

The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian between the year 548 and 565, the site contains the world’s oldest continually operating library, possessing many unique books.

This trip runs every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

You will be collected from your hotel reception at 7.30am. The drive to St Catherine’s will be via an air-conditioned coach and it takes around 2 hours 30 minutes.

Upon arrival you will be given a guided tour of the monastery and your guide will be on hand to answer your questions and give you detailed explanations of the history of the monastery.

After you have finished your tour, you will move on to the restaurant where you can catch your breath and enjoy a delicious lunch. Once you have had your lunch and time to relax your next stop will be the city of Dahab. You will have time to look around local shops and buy any perfume, papyrus or souvenirs if you would like to. Then we will continue along the road back to Sharm and arriving back at your hotel early evening.

The monastery is a beautiful sight to see whilst in Egypt and is at the foot of moses mountain where according to the Hebrew bible Moses recieved his 10 commandments.An area mentioned in the bible a number of times and shrouded in religious history, St. Catherines monastery is a fascinating sight to visit.
